Little Jason’s Walkthrough Horror Movie Guide
In this motion graphics piece I took the time to explore the ideas behind filming a horror movie. When discussing the blood and violence throughout various films, I found a way to keep my audience entertained without scaring them. I use a narrator to discuss my ideas behind the sub-genres of monster, slasher, supernatural and zombie movies. His name is Little Jason and with his J shaped body he comically mimics the icon from Friday the 13th. In referencing himself as LJ, the audience is able to accept him and the stylized world of where he exist. The color red and use of one typeface make the motion piece easy to watch so LJ’s message is the main point of focus.
In order to discuss such a massive topic, Little Jason shares tips toward the beginning of the film to prepare oneself for watching a horror movie. After getting the audience ready, he dives into the sub-genres where he uses live footage to communicate his guidance more clearly. The classic horror movies in combination with more recent ones create a connection between the audience and motion piece. Many horror movies are redone, so to talk about my ideas I found it necessary to reference films that everyone has at least heard of or seen at least once. While the live film can scare off the audience, Little Jason is there to down play the scary scenes. He shows that he himself is scared of the movies, but with his tips in mind they become more entertaining. Little Jason and I want everyone to understand why people are so drawn to these films, while making them easier to watch for people that have a hard time being scared.
